Doña, the female owned cocktail bar known for its extensive mezcal menu and stylish interior, is delighted to announce a permanent restaurant opening on Friday 24th May. Situated directly above Doña’s basement cocktail bar, the restaurant is a natural evolution since beginning life as a pop up bar. The ground level restaurant serves Latin American fusion plates designed to pair perfectly with a mezcal margarita or two.

‘Home cooked, handmade’ is Doña restaurant’s motto. Everything from the empanada dough to the salsa roja are made in-house. Designed for sharing and pairing, graze on a couple of dishes or devour the whole menu. The moreish Mezcal Chicken Skewers are a nod to Doña’s origins and made with their own-brand Dangerous Don mezcal. Doñitas (Honduran arepas) are generously filled with Doña’s signature creamy black beans, avocado and salad. Empanadas, with their light, crisp handmade pastry come in three flavours suitable for carnivores, omnivores and herbivores. Tamalitos a.k.a tamales are wrapped in banana leaves and filled with a steaming corn and black bean dough. Plantain crisps have a spicy mango salad for scooping. Chunky cassava fries come with a trio of sauces varying in heat. Don’t overlook the totopos (tortilla chips) accompanied by a satisfying and unexpectedly light black bean dip. A selection of four dishes is available for a purse-friendly £24.

The weekly-changing Plato Tipico is the national dish of Hondura. Rice, refried beans, fried plantain and salad might come with say, a grilled whole fish. Venezuelan Quesillo is the sweet (but not too sweet) end to the meal; a perfectly-set caramel flan.

Honduran Karla Zuniga naturally became part of the Doña community after cooking for Breddos Tacos and Tigre Tacos residencies at Doña over the last couple of years. Now Doña’s in-house Head Chef, Karla has developed an unpretentious, lovingly prepared menu. This is Karla’s first role as Head Chef and Doña’s female-founded team strives to support and nurture her creative talent. Doña’s ethos of empowering feminine energy is far from a girls-only mentality. Inclusivity however, is a strong core value across the business, even down to the menu which is vegan and vegetarian friendly.

The restaurant’s cocktail menu features Doña classics with the addition of a Cherry Mezcal Spritz, Cucumber Margarita and Paloma.

Food is served in the ground floor restaurant and basement cocktail bar. The restaurant is open Fridays and Saturdays with a view to open during the week when demand increases.
