Nocturne is the fifth and latest film that Tony Palmer has made about the English composer, Britten. The first was made 45 years ago. If this is not an unique relationship between film-maker and subject, it must at the very least be rare.

In Tony Palmer's view, Britten is still not properly understood as a person and no other reason than this is needed to justify the fifth film. Britten was without doubt a great opera composer. No great composer is likely to be easy to understand but those with the ability to create great opera can be particularly difficult to get to grips with. Courtesy of Amadeus, we find we are still struggling to understand Mozart.

Tony Palmer will be introducing Nocturne himself. This will genuinely be an opportunity not to be missed.

This event is generously hosted by Pitshanger Pictures.
