Saturday Night Fever is a musical based on the huge Paramount RSO movie which was based on a story by Nik Cohn. The screenplay was written by Norman Wexler and adapted for stage by Nan Knighton and Arlene Philips- the choreographer on Queen musical ‘We Will Rock You’. Featuring an instantly recognisable soundtrack by the Bee Gees- for many, Saturday Night Fever is the personification of an entire decade. This stage version of Saturday Night Fever originally opened in 1998 at the London Palladium to a great reception.

The story revolves around a young Brooklyn native named Tony Manero who lives for Saturday nights. The self proclaimed king of the dance floor- Tony has all the moves. However things outside of the disco are not so great for Tony. Working at a dead-end job at a local paint store- Tony constantly argues with his father and suffers the comparison with his priest brother. Tony’s life begins to change when he spies the beautiful Stephanie at the disco and begins to train with her in order to win a dance competition. Stephanie and Tony begin to dream of life outside of their local community.

The sensational music of the Bee Gees is the perfect backdrop for any musical with tracks including ‘You Should Be Dancing’, ‘If I Can’t Have You’, ‘Jive Talkin’’, How Deep is Your Love?’ and of course ‘Night Fever’. The dancing is pure disco and fantastically choreographed creating a memorable and energetic musical in the very finest traditions.
