BRITTEN WAR REQUIEM

Composed for the newly re-built Coventry Cathedral, Britten’s War Requiem sets the traditional Latin text alongside some of Wilfred Owen’s war poetry, including, unforgettably, his unfinished Let Us Sleep Now. The score is an intensely moving testament to Britten’s lifelong pacifism, expressing through language and music both the pity and the horror of war. This performance will be held on the date of Britten’s birthday and in remembrance of the Sixtieth Anniversary of the end of World War II.
