TCHAIKOVSKY SERENADE IN C MAJOR
TCHAIKOVSKY VARIATIONS ON A ROCOCO THEME
MENDELSSOHN SYMPHONY NO.4, ‘ITALIAN’

Although based on classical models, both of these Tchaikovsky pieces are as heartfelt as his most emotional large-scale works. The Serenade includes one of his loveliest waltzes and an Elegy of eloquent beauty. Julian Lloyd Webber performs the Variations on a Rococo Theme: music of easeful and elegant commentary. Mendelssohn’s sunny ‘Italian’ Symphony concludes with an exhilarating Tarantella, a folkdance from Southern Italy that was supposedly an antidote to the tarantula’s bite!

Conductor: Barry Wordsworth
Cello: Julian Lloyd Webber
