Nazir Tanbouli's drawings and paintings are social, critical stories that delve into the quotidian and reveal, in equal measure, the beauties and nightmares therein. Unusual in contemporary draftsman ship and painting, Tanbouli works with narrative, through both single images and sequences, yet these narratives are not strictly linear or deterministic, but appear to be ever-unfolding and capable of revealing something new.

Sharing an outlook and sensibility with artists such as Goya and Hogarth, Tanbouli's works are subversive, yet subjective conversations. They hold within them the elements of confessional, but it's not clear who is doing the confessing and who the listening – the artist or his audience?

Nazir Tanbouli was born in 1971. He lived, studied and worked in Alexandria Egypt until 2002. Since then he has lived in the UK, where he focuses on drawing and painting-based projects, exhibiting both in the UK and internationally. He has been the recipient of various prizes and awards, as well as mural commissions and collaborative projects with other art forms.
