A Hindustani Classical Music Duet.

As part of a UK tour, Debapriya and Samanwaya present the only London date of Jugulbandi - the Indian term for Duet. A duet is a musical conversation between two artistes, something that is not only a combination of two musical mediums but also a confluence of two souls, two minds and two hearts.

There are many excellent Duets in Western Classical and Jazz music, but there are very few in Indian Classical music. Almost all the Indian Jugalbandis are either two vocalists or two instrumentalists. Debapriya and Samanwaya present their duet in a different way, with Debapriya the vocalist and Samanwaya playing Sitar.

Disciples of PADMABHUSAN GIRIJA DEVI, in the Jugalbandi of this new couple there belongs a common composition based on an Indian Raga. The musical adventures of the two performers are related to man and nature, divine and earthly with a complete reflection of Indian Classical music with different approaches whilst preserving the tradition and nuances of ‘Ragas and Talas’. They will be accompanied by Madhrujya on Tabla.

A unique, informal and intimate venue in Earlsfield, South London, TARA Studio is fast becoming a valuable addition to theatre in the capital.
